DWern Bingo
If you had a bent rain fly pole AND a flat tire on your DWern Journey Bingo card - you’re 2/5ths of the way there! The road to White Horse was rough to say the least. And on the way to the GC yesterday my tire pressure sensor went off. Stopped and could hear the tire hissing. Asked a local gent if there might be a tire store in the area (totally thinking I was screwed) and he sent me to Sandoval’s tire in Williams. So I filled my tire up and lumbered down there about 15 miles back south. Let me tell you, there are good people in this world. One is Sandoval! He scored me a fresh tire and had me on the rim and out the door in 30 minutes. Great guy.
Pics of the Grand Canyon could not do it justice. The place exceeds any expectations I had…by multiples of 100+.
A quick turn coming….BEWARE:
An old rugby phrase we’d use (I’m talking mid-80s circa Towson State) was “look where we ARE boys!!” - we’d exhort each other through mouthpieces and spit with this phrase as a reminder of the work we’d done to get there (“there” being that game, that championship, that place on the pitch (after strenuous pack play) - basically we were all telling each other through those five words all the things (“don’t quit now, suck it up, you’ve got more in you, we’ve got these guys!). Anyway, that phrase “look where we ARE” keeps coming up to me as I go from one jaw dropping place to another. Replace “we” for “I” in this case. I AM VERY fortunate. And I am appreciative of my best friend Amy for knowing how key this is for me. But to get a bit sappy here we should all make sure we stop a brief second and say to ourselves, “look where we ARE!” This applies to wherever you are in your journey of life. Look where we ARE - we are getting our driver’s license, we are making tons of friends, we are working hard for future big plans, we are struggling to make do and busy as hell but we’ve got health, family and love…we are retired and still healthy (enough!) AND have each other and our health. (Health’s a big one…and one you can’t really plan for.) Wherever you may be…”look where we ARE boys!”
