John Rock Hike

First big hike in a decade (when Casey and Laura gave me a baptism by fire in the Cascades!) - so I took on a route called John Rock trail. So named cuz some fella name of John once slipped and fell to his death from said rock. Soooo…once I got up to the top (1000 ft climb in less than 2 miles up for you hiking buffs) I stayed waaay away from the edge! Hike was probably a bit more intense for my first time out. I will say that on the way down I had a more acute respect for the steepness of the way up and the effort I expended to get there. There’s a metaphor there - trite I know but meaningful for me especially. I told you I may wax a bit! Look out - I may hit you with a poem or two soon…after all the title of this blog was appropriated by Johnny Wern from the last line of a poem I wrote for a poetry class at Towson in 1984!!
